Sire Cassanova x Dam Madam Rosa
Year Foaled: 2012 Freeland’s Big Blue Straw (Straw/Buddy) is growing up nicely. He is still all boy, a truly sweet boy. He continues to impress me with how very loving he can be to both people and the herd. He is so gentle with the new foals, grooming, and loving and letting them tug on him while he stands still. He seems to just want to be sure they are all ok, even though they are not his. He always comes down to the gate to see if he can come with you. He loves to investigate and just hang out with you as you walk about the ranch. He has almost no fear, probably in part owing to being the boss mares colt back in Arkansas and part owing to his genetics: Mom, Rosa, is the boss mare of her band at Freeland’s Gypsy Horses (http://www.freelandsgypsyhorses.com/) and Dad, Cassanova, has that sweetness (and sense of humor) that can only come with serene confidence. Rosa and Cassanova are shown as the last pictures in the gallery below. Straw’s grandfather on his mother’s side is Sid’s Good Stallion, making him a cousin to BB, and Straw’s grandfather is Legend Boy on Cassanova’s side. So, Straw is not lacking for good lines. He is still growing fast , a lot of bone right now, and I suspect about to hit another growth spurt. He is so fun to watch, and a ‘kick’ (no pun intended) to hang out with. Straw visits with my Mom, ‘Grandma’: He’d come right into the house if you let him. He thinks the house digs look just fine and comfy. And Grandma doesn’t exactly discourage him with her “oh, such a pretty sweet boy!” Alex, our trainer, is looking forward to riding Straw. He’s been taught all he can on the ground, saddle, bridle, ground driving, loves the bit and doesn’t like to give it up….he’s different. But we will wait, maybe even past four as his bones look like they are going to grow for awhile. We have a lot of high hopes for Straw, and lots of love. |
